Its Giving Tuesday, and this time of year it seems everyone’s hearts are just a little more open. We’re a little less judgmental and a little more giving, a little less selfish and a little more loving. I LOVE this time of year. Everything about it! The spirit, the decorations, the lights and the gatherings filled with laughter and love.
This season always triggers me take a some personal inventory - really look at my life and appreciate how incredibly lucky I am. Last week I was out for my usual morning walk and in my head, I’m complaining about the temperature. It was 42 degrees. Valid complaint. I’m bundled though; got my hat, my gloves and my three layers. I then thought about all the homeless people who had been out all night in this weather and my heart sank. WHAT was I even complaining about. I was out there for an hour or two. They were out all night. Insert big crazy idea to save the world here…..but, I’d have to start small, so I invited my friends and family to join me in buying new socks so we could donate them to a local shelter. Yeah, I know, might seem trivial and new socks are probably something that most of us don’t even think twice about, but the average person walks 4-5 miles a day. The average homeless person walks more than 10 miles a day. Johnny and I hosted a get together last Friday and collected more than 200 pairs of new socks, hats and gloves. I’m so thankful to everyone who was able to stop by, drop off some socks and make a strangers day just a little bit easier. Keep Shining beautiful people.
